North Durham Issue No. 2
Presented by: The Welcome Company

There’s something magical about hitting the park or heading out on a hike in the fall. The crisp air and cooler temps make it easier to enjoy the outdoors without breaking a sweat, and the changing leaves turn every trail into a colorful backdrop straight out of a postcard. Kids love crunching through fallen leaves, spotting acorns, or chasing squirrels, while parents get a chance to slow down and soak in the season. Parks also offer wide open spaces for games, picnics, or just letting little ones run free under the autumn sun. Hikes can be an adventure, whether it’s discovering new trails, finding the perfect walking stick, or simply enjoying quiet time away from screens. It’s affordable fun, it gets the whole family moving, and it creates memories that feel just as warm as the pumpkin spice latte you’ll grab afterward. In short, fall is the perfect time to connect with nature and each other.
Kindness in Motion

Do you have crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, knee braces, or other mobility gear collecting dust? One of our Amazing Partners Endurance Fence have partnered with Crutches4Africa, a nonprofit that collects gently used mobility equipment and ships it overseas to communities in desperate need. After visiting a rehab center in Tanzania, they saw firsthand how limited resources leave many people with disabilities isolated and without support. Now, they are helping fill a 40-foot shipping container right in Holly Springs to give those items a second life. Donations can be dropped off at 312 N Main St, Holly Springs, NC 27540, or they are happy to pick up if that’s easier. They are also reaching out to healthcare providers, PTs, hospitals, nursing homes, retirement communities, assisted living facilities, medical supply houses, and even junk removal companies to get involved. SO if you know anyone, Together, we can ALL turn unused equipment into tools of hope for people who need them most.

Fall in Love with Your Lawn
Fall isn’t just for pumpkin spice and cozy sweaters it’s prime time for giving your yard some TLC. Think of it as your lawn’s glow-up season before winter comes knocking.
First things first: clear out all those stubborn summer weeds and leftover debris. Your grass needs room to breathe (and let’s be honest, nobody wants crunchy weeds ruining the vibe). Next, show your soil some love with a good fertilizer boost.
Don’t forget the shrubs and hedges! A quick trim keeps everything looking sharp and holiday-ready. And since we all know the leaves are about to drop like it’s hot, go ahead and plan your leaf strategy before your yard turns into a crunchy carpet.
A little prep now means lush, green grass come spring and trust us, your future self will thank you when the neighbors are eyeing your yard with envy.
