Durham Steps Up for Neighbors in NeedThis December, Durham’s holiday season hasn’t just been about lights and celebrations it’s been about neighbors helping neighbors. One standout effort has been the 11th annual Bull City Foodraiser, a grassroots food drive led by Durham Public Schools and community volunteers to fight hunger ahead of the holidays. Over the first week of December, volunteers transformed a Lakewood Elementary gym into a hub of compassion, sorting and bagging more than 35 tons of food to support nearly 5,000 Durham families before Christmas break. Students, sorority members, local leaders, and university groups all pitched in to make sure children heading home for the holidays wouldn’t have to worry about where their next meal comes from.
